Practice tests for roofing license exams
Roofing is licensed inconsistently across the country. Some states register roofers at the state level, many leave it to cities and counties, and a large number of jurisdictions accept the national ICC roofing contractor examination in place of writing their own. That last group is why a single national test covers more candidates than the state count suggests.

If your jurisdiction uses the ICC roofing contractor examination, the national test above applies regardless of which state you are in. If it writes its own exam, check the candidate bulletin for the reference books before buying, and contact us if you are unsure whether one of these fits.
Find out who actually licenses you
This is the step that costs roofers the most wasted effort. A roofing credential can come from a state board, a county building department, or a city licensing office, and the answer changes what you sit and sometimes whether you sit an exam at all. Storm-driven work adds another layer, because several states require separate registration for roofers doing insurance repair work.
Start with the building department for the jurisdiction where the work is. Your business address is beside the point. It publishes the classification list and says which exam applies. Once you know which exam applies, the administrator publishes a candidate bulletin with the content outline and the reference books, and that bulletin is what any honest practice test is built from.
What a roofing exam asks about
Content outlines vary, so treat your bulletin as the authority. The areas that recur across roofing examinations are roof assemblies and covering materials, deck preparation and underlayment, slope and drainage requirements, flashing and penetration detailing, ventilation of the roof assembly, tear-off and reroofing rules, and fastening and wind-uplift requirements. Safety questions appear throughout, since fall protection governs how the work is legally performed.
The code sections behind those questions sit in the building or residential code the jurisdiction has adopted. That is why the ICC-based tests travel well across jurisdictions.
